IERA GIS Training

Welcome to IERA’s Geographic Information System (GIS) Training web page where you can find regularly updated information on the GIS course schedule, course contact information, and download links for the IERA course brochure and other information.

IERA* offers GIS training in the form of ESRI GIS short courses taught by a highly qualified and experienced ESRI Authorized Instructor. We started doing this in 1996 with the ESRI Introduction to ArcView course. IERA is currently focusing on the ESRI Introduction to ArcGIS I course.

Introduction to ArcGIS I (9.x)
This ESRI course introduces participants to the latest version of ArcGIS and provides the foundation for becoming a successful user of the technology. The 2-day course is intended for those who are new to ArcGIS or to GIS in general. Participants learn how to use the different software tools and explore how they work together to provide a complete GIS software solution. The course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to create, edit, and work with georeferenced spatial data. Expect short lectures followed by hands on tutorial sessions using the ArcGIS 9.x software. Each student is provided with the ESRI course textbook and hands-on exercises are performed using the latest version of the software. Students are provided with their own computer during the course. An ESRI certificate of completion and 16 contact hours of professional development credit are awarded to attendees. The current GIS course schedule is provided in the following table. Class size is limited. A detailed description and outline of the course is available on the ESRI web site.

On March 7, 2008, IERA completed its move to a new facility located at 2445 Alamo Ave SE. The new facility provides IERA with a new and large classroom dedicated to IERA training activities such as the ESRI ArcGIS courses. The new facility also houses a separate New Mexico Tech Distance Education classroom. A map showing the location of IERA can be downloaded by clicking on the following link. A revised map showing the location of nearby overnight accommodations will also be made available in a short while. The maps are PDF files that may be viewed and printed using the free Adobe Reader.
